English

At Northern House Academy, our English curriculum is built around and underpinned by our School values. As such our approach is designed around understanding the needs of each individual child, is unapologetic in its high expectation, knowing that our children are not defined by their needs but instead viewed with the positivity they need in order to be nurtured both emotionally and academically, it is consistent in order to enable a safe environment where our pupils are empowered to take risks and experience success and it must be an English curriculum that promotes the simple pleasure of happiness.

I hosted an online drawing workshop for Northern House Academy and I had a fantastic time showing the students (and teachers, too!) how to draw some of my characters and scenes. The students were a real delight to work with and they engaged with my workshop brilliantly, creating their very own masterpieces! It was an absolute pleasure to work with Northern House Academy, its staff, and all of the wonderful students.

I had a wonderful day at Northern House Academy working with Year 1 and Year 2 children. Abi Allum was very attentive and had everything set up ready for my arrival which helped the visit go smoothly. It was my first time in a school for children with additional needs and I was hugely impressed by the dedication of the staff to helping the children get the most out of the day, and from school in general.  I witness several occasions during the day when staff supported children in the kindest and most skilful way. Children were treated with great respect and their challenges handled in a very sensitive and positive way. The children were lovely – and engaged well with the sessions. We had a lot of fun creating a new fairy tale as a group and coming up with stories based on our own personal experiences. Overall it was a really lovely day and I’d definitely like to come back.
